The Hayes Metals metallurgical laboratory first gained internationally accredited status in 1976.

Our Quality Management System (QMS) is formally recognised by IANZ and operates in accordance with NZS/AS ISO/IEC 17025: "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories" (2005).

Our analyses and reports are internationally recognised by countries whose accreditation authorities are signatories to the ILAC and APLAC Mutual Recognition Arrangements (MRA). Accreditation authorities in over 65 countries currently participate in the arrangement. For example, the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and the China National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (CNAL) recognise our IANZ accreditation as being equivalent.

Our laboratory delivers on its reputation for quality and accuracy, with expertise developed over a century and equipment capable of providing an independent, qualified, technical analysis.
How can we help with your project?

Chemical Testing

We are accredited to test a wide range of industrial metals and alloys by employing a wide range of instrumental and classical testing techniques. This includes the latest X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) metal testing to determine the chemical composition of materials. The laboratory is equipped to handle almost any sample, with quick turnaround times and reliable results

Metallurgy

Our world-class metallurgy techniques allow us to understand the internal structure of the alloy. This allows us to identify possible defects, fracture mechanisms, inclusions, the effectiveness of heat treatments, and more. This allows us to support our customers with any casting issues.

Corrosion Testing

We provide a range of different corrosion tests for various metals, alloys, and coatings to ISO, AS, ASTM and DIN standards, including dezincification resistance (AS2345), Intergranular corrosion (NAMLT), Exfoliation corrosion (ASSET), and galvanising – Zinc coating weight/thickness. This is essential for the development of new products or materials.

Physical-Materials Testing

Physical testing of metals by Vickers, Rockwell B and Rockwell C methods. Evaluation for heat treatments, case hardening, alloy tempering, etc.
Tensile tests of metal samples to ASTM e8/e8M - 13a and others.

Scanning Electron Microscopy

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) uses a focused beam of electrons to image microscopic details of your material in high resolution.
